The Healing Corner

February 2, 2019 //  by St. David's

February 2019

At the beginning of 2018 my articles were written about Prayers and
suggestions about what to pray. For this month’s article I want to return to
how to pray. The following Prayer is an adaptation by Jerry Williams from the
Rev. Nigel Mumford’s writing, The Whole Armor of God, a brochure from the
Oratory of the Little Way.

As Believers in Jesus we have the authority to use His Name to win the
spiritual battles that we are in right now. Both Jerry and I pray that you will
find this prayer to bring you the understanding of what God has given to His
children, how to use what He has equipped us with to make you a victorious
child of God. From your Sister in Christ Jesus, Carol Williams.

PRAYER FOR THE WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD

The Christian life is a battle for the Kingdom of God against the forces of evil.
Our Lord Jesus Christ commands us to fight the battle under His Leadership
(See James 4:7). It can only be fought in the strength of God through faith in
Jesus Christ.

So we need:
SPIRITUAL ARMOR to protect us and
SPIRITUAL WEAPONS with which to fight.

(See Ephesians 6:10-20 to confirm this.)

Armor must be put on before battle. Therefore put on the whole armor of
God first thing each morning.

So on Waking, I pray:
I thank you Heavenly Father for the new day and the opportunities You give
me to serve You. This is a day that you have made, and I do rejoice in it.

In Jesus’ Name I Put On:
The Girdle of Truth

Satan is the “father of lies” and tries to pervert the Word of God. The Truth is
supremely Jesus Christ. Putting on the Girdle of Truth each day begins to lead
me into Truth and Freedom.

The Breastplate of Righteousness
I put on Your Righteousness, God, NOT mine. My relationship with You is put
right through my faith in Jesus Christ. I am forgiven and have Your gift of
eternal life. However much Satan may try to crush my faith by loading me
with guilt, You have accepted and accounted me righteous.

The Shoes of Peace
I put on the Shoes of Peace so that I will not sow seeds of discord, but will
leave behind Your peace, God, wherever I go.

The Helmet of Salvation
I place this helmet on my head and realize afresh that Jesus died for me on the Cross. Salvation is a personal
experience through my acceptance of Christ’s victory for me. The helmet is His protection of my mind, will and
emotions and my seeing, thinking, speaking, hearing and central nervous system.

In Jesus’ Name I Take:
The Shield of Faith
By Faith I take Your promises, God, as true. I take the Shield in my left hand to protect me from the “fiery darts of the devil”, who attacks and tempts me with fears, worries and depressions. My faith enables You to protect me from those darts.

The Sword of the Spirit
I take this sword (my Bible) in my right hand. It is more powerful in spiritual warfare than any other weapon of Satan or man. I wield it in the Name of Jesus Christ, cutting me free from all wrong bondages to people and
things, releasing me from the past, and freeing me for service. I keep the sword sharp by regular study of the Scriptures, thus making Your Truth, God, part of my very self.

I have put on the Whole Armor of God and now complete my preparations:
I claim a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit with His Fruits and Gifts (Galatians 5:22)
I put on over my armor the “Garment of Praise” instead of a spirit of despair. (Isaiah 61:3)
I kneel in spirit at the cross, asking that my loved ones and I be covered by the “Blood of the Lamb”.
I sign myself with the Sign of the Cross, for it is the only sign under which I was born and under which I now live.
I ask all this in the Name of Jesus Christ! AMEN!

I am now ready for the Lord’s work.
In the evening, the last thing I do is put on the Whole Armor of God again to protect me as I sleep. (1 Peter 5:8- 9a).
