Waverly East Update

Several times each Sunday over the past few weeks, someone has approached one of our team members to tell us what a magnificent job that we are doing for the students and families of Waverly East Intermediate school.

Let’s set the record straight… it’s the PEOPLE of this great church who are responsible for the success of this outreach project who deserve all of the credit! It has been truly humbling to see so many members of this parish support this initiative in such a huge way.

Spoiler Alert: We are not done!

Our plan is to furnish school supplies, personal care items, and adult mentorship to Waverly East throughout the 2023-24 academic calendar.

What types of adult mentorship might we engage in? The “Book A Day” is a mentorship opportunity for adults to read to students there while they eat breakfast in the cafeteria. It’s early in the day (7:30 am) and lasts only 15 minutes, but the impact that it has on both the Waverly students as well as the adult readers is significant. You may do this one or more times throughout the school year.

Courtney LeRoy loves to knit and has offered to go to the school to share her knitting skills with those who might be interested in learning from her. Maybe YOU have a special skill or interest that you might consider sharing with some very impressionable young people during their lunch period. If YOU think you might, please tell either Amy/Gary Mugnolo or Andi Flitton today!

P.S. If you might be interested in JOINING OUR TEAM (we meet for 1 hour monthly), please let us know!

P.P.S. We are considering providing COFFEE, HOT CHOCOLATE & COOKIES to Elmwood School parents & students (next door) one day a week (~3-4pm) during colder weather months as parents come through our parking lot to pick up their children. We will need a few people who are willing to assist each time to help run this project. Please holler if you wish to help us.
